Open Image has been founded on an idea which may prove delusional, but true—that virtual reality has been done completely wrong. The technology for life-like VR experiences exists, and has only been adopted by enthusiast audiences. This being for one reason alone: that the films do not exist.

“Build it and they will come.”

My vision for VR experiences is premature; I wish it to always be so.

Cinema in VR presents an entirely new set of rules—a “new world.” The question for directors working in the virtual reality format is, when does the audience choose, and when do they not choose?

My passion for virtual reality is to explore this elastic set of rules while utilizing AI as a tool to overcome bottlenecks in budget and compute. AI should be used here to fill in the details of the worlds we’re creating—the grass, the texture of the walls, the sand, the fingerprints.

With VR, an audience can breathe in the new world you’ve created. They can see it all around them and later say, “I’ve been there.”
